The leaves are alternate, compound, with 10 to 20 pairs of pinnae, each with 20 to 40pairs of leaflets.
Leaflets are oblong, apex rounded, slightly notched.

They are base obtuse and unequal. The margin entire are 12x 0.5 cm

Flowers are numerous and irregular.
Calyx is deeply five-lobed, the five lobes are almost equal. The corolla of five free red petals are with round blade and narrow stalk, the upper petals are striped

They are hard and woody, dark brown. They are very conspicuous in winter when the tree has lost its leaves.
