General Description

Leaf

Juvenile leaf

Size 7 to 13 x 5 to 6 cm
Length of leaf stalk 2 to 3 cm

Locates opposite for 3 or 4 pairs.  Alternate, lanceolate.

Adult leaf
Size 10 to 20 x 4 to 8 cm

  Leaves are alternate, simple, lanceolate.

  Leaf apex has a long fine point, base obtuse or acute, often unequal, margin entire.

  Texture of leaves is rather leathery, surface is smooth, vein are closed together, almost parallel, at an angle of 50-60 to the midrib.

  A vein just within, and close to the margin is usually obvious.

Flower

  Flowers in umbels of up to 10 flowers in the leaf axils, the inflorescence stalk flattened.

  Flowers are regular, copious nectar with bee-keepers, numerous stamens, which is the most conspicuous part of the flower; ovary inferior, 3 to 6-celled with numerous ovules in each cell, style single, arising at the center of the nectar producing tissue which covers the top of the ovary.

Size 1 x 1.2 cm

  Woody capsule, more or less cylindrical. 

  Opening at the top by valves which covers the top of the ovary.

Trunk

With a fibrous brown bark persistent on the trunk and branches, typically straight and about half the height of the mature tree.
