  Flowers are regular, fragrant. Calyx tubular, opening in four or five short sepals.

  Corolla attached at the top of the calyx tube, of five small spreading petals, stamens numerous, white, conspicuous, the filaments joined in five bundles opposite the petals.

  Ovary inferior, three to four-celled with many ovules in each cell and a single slender style. The fusion of stamen filaments into bundles distinguishes Melaleuca from the similar flower of Callistemon where the stamens are all free
