Since
its establishment in 1975, the Hong Kong Museum of History has made
great efforts in collecting, conserving, processing, studying and
displaying cultural objects which are closely related to the
archaeology, history, ethnography and natural history of Hong Kong and
the South China area. The Museum also organises various kinds of general
and academic extension activities to arouse public interest in the
history and heritage of Hong Kong.

The new Museum
occupies an area of 17,500m2 , with 8,000m2 being
used for exhibitions, including a 1,000m2 Special Exhibition
Gallery for staging changing thematic exhibitions and a Permanent
Exhibition Gallery of about 7,000m2 where a Permanent
Exhibition which introduces the cultural heritage and outlines the 6,000
years of the history of Hong Kong will be featured. The exhibition is in
the final stage of preparation. The fabrication has commenced since
early 2000. The Permanent Exhibition will be ready by mid 2001. Shop and
Snack Bar will also be provided when the Permanent Exhibition is opened. |
