Muse -- probably the best band in the world
Have
you ever heard of a British band called
Muse? This powerful trio includes Matthew Bellamy (songwriter/guitarist/
keyboard-player and voice of Muse), Dominic Howard (drummer) and Chris
Wolstenholme (bassist). Absolution, the latest Muse’s album, topped the UK
album chart at its first week of release. have evolved in many ways. They’ve
taken the energy and individuality of their previous two albums one step further
and created a vivid masterpiece that is sure to raise a smile on any
listener’s face. Musically, they are visiting depths never reached before -
while vocally - Matt Bellamy is stronger than ever.
Absolution
was full of Matt’s obsession about the end of the world.
"I think
there's a lot of apocalyptic stuff going on in a lot of the songs.”
According to Mr. Bellamy.
The introductory and opening track ‘Apocalypse Now’ features powerful
percussion and the trademark keyboard / guitar mix reminiscent of previous
material and surely creates an apocalyptic atmosphere. Another track, ‘Time Is
Running Out’ has a funky baseline and a catchy chorus. One of my favorites-
‘Stockholm Syndrome’- is the rockiest song on the album. The powerful heavy
riff plus the desperate vocal of Matt makes this song an unforgettable one.
‘Hysteria’ is a typical Muse rock ‘anthem’ with a tricky riff again.
Muse is certainly taking their music on a journey it hasn’t been on before.
Tracks such as ‘Blackout’ and ‘Falling Away From You’ show their
impressive mellow, orchestral, classical side.
The
track “Butterflies and hurricanes” shows Matt’s talents in piano. ‘Ruled
By Secrecy’ is the perfect termination to the musically beautiful array of
tracks. Combining slower, mellower elements with Muse’s trademark Piano /
Guitar sound, you end up finding yourself lost in a beautiful place.
Some
may say that Muse is pretentious due to their unique style, which cannot be
classified into any genre. But Muse rocks, whether you like it or not, will be
around. Absolution proves that. This is a definite addition to my best albums of
the year. It should be in your list too. Come discover Muse, the best rock band
in the world.
