Some useful (I hope) tips for HKAL Use of English:

 

notice for Listening (from Richard)

1.留意guide lines for radio!

2.唔識串既字,要先嘗試寫低個大約拚音.

3.唔好用tidy up 果段時間去睇後面既題目,因為之後會俾時間你睇.

4.大部份答案唔洗完整句子.

除非,

a)題目指明

b)答案線上有句號

c)答案線上俾左個subject,或者because等.

5.答案一定要寫係條線上面!!!!!否則不予評分!!!!

6.盡量用簡寫,tidy up果時再寫返全寫.

7.留意問題既tense,用返相應既tense回答.

 

 

techniques for Writing (from Richard and June)

1.不可以隔行!

2.要寫大鋼,不須太仔細,只要自己睇得明就可以.而且要預埋每部分大約字數.

3.揀題目,寫大鋼大約花十五分鐘.

4.Introduction 估大約 十分一 篇幅就可以了.

5.作完一定要proof-reading,去改錯與美化

6.Proof-reading時要針對自己經常犯錯既地方!

7.審題要留意問題要求的"點".

8.熱門題目: 家庭暴力;出生率下降;青年性問題;全球化;一條龍+334學制;icq如何影響學生語文水平;貧富;網上跌序;通識教育;禁煙措施.

 

 

method to handle Reading and Language System (From Richard)

1.二十分鐘for part a,七十分鐘 for part b (如卷既instruction所講)

2.完成次序可調,但reading comprehension最遲都要係the 3rd part to finish,因為佔分較重.

3.reading comprehension: 最好唔好睇晒先做,應該先睇標題,再睇題目,搵key words.再一段段睇.

4.留意作者立場,再去減少可能答案既數目!即係消去法!!!!

5.Proof reading: 留意instruction!! 05年已經玩過一次野!小心!

6.Column match: 先睇一次column a,留意內容類別(如講人,講物等).

7.Summery Cloze(即係version 1,2): 先睇version1,再做version2. 留意單/眾數,tense. 大部分字都可以係version 1 搵到,要自己諗既,過往最多都係得4條要自己諗.

 

 

Oral skills (from june leung and richard eng)

1.八分半鐘 for presentation;一分半鐘 for brain storming of discusssion

2.Presentation 最好係 一分四十五秒.

3.Discussion 開首/結尾都唔會加分,唔一定要draw conclusion

4.Discussion 問題寫住 "should" 既部份一定要講. "can" 或 "may" 就有時間可以講.

5.Presentation時間分配: 五分鐘做 note card,三分鐘rehearsal.

 

 

skills to deal with Practical Skills for Work and Study: (from richard eng~)

1.順住做!唔好分長短tasks

2.唔好睇一次data file先開始做...因為只有3成真係有用

3.搵料時,要跟住個第一page d key words,然後 睇下後面d資料既title~先再決定睇唔睇!

4.留意instruction 講要按咩條件分段!影響 relevance and readablility

5.今年出report機會較低,熱門為letter,article,會議記錄!?(高到低)

6.注意tense!!!!!and pronoun!!!

7.唔考general knowledge and self-opinion!

8.如果見到一堆數據,多用qualitative,即係many,much,not much etc,少用quantitative,即係 25%,1/4等
