Once there lived a monkey and a grizzly bear in a forest. Being good friends, they shared apples and berries, joy and sadness. The bear loved his friend so much that he always said, ¡¥he is my true friend, I should tell him if he does something wrong.¡¦

In fall, the bear used to eat a lot to build up fat for the winter when he hibernated. ¡¥Why are you eating so many things, my friend?¡¦ asked the monkey curiously. ¡¥Well, if I don¡¦t, I won¡¦t sleep well in the winter,¡¦ answered the grizzly bear. ¡¥Why do you have to sleep?¡¦ questioned the monkey. ¡¥It¡¦s too cold for me to move. My dear friend, let¡¦s go to find some berries, I am very hungry.¡¦ Replied the bear, and pushing his friend.

After the two animals left, a fox came out of the shadows. Cheated by monkeys twice, the fox hated monkeys. ¡¥I am cleverer than all the animals,¡¦ said the fox proudly, ¡¥monkeys must be the most delicious dishes. I know how to exploit that monkey¡¦s weak spot.¡¦ Drawing a monkey picture on the ground, he laughed. ¡¥Ha, poor monkey, you will be mine!¡¦

When the monkey stayed alone upon the tree, the fox came. ¡¥Hi, monkey,¡¦ said the fox, disguised as a friendly fox, ¡¥I am lonely, can you be my friend?¡¦ ¡¥Of course,¡¦ replied the monkey, climbed down. ¡¥The grizzly bear, my friend, has just gone to find something to eat. I am bored and lonely now. Let¡¦s talk about your stories. Why are you lonely?¡¦ ¡¥Wait,¡¦ said the fox, ¡¥you said a grizzly bear? Oh, dear, how horrible!¡¦ ¡¥What so horrible?¡¦ asked the monkey, surprised about what the fox said. ¡¥Grizzly bears are violent and ruthless,¡¦ answered the fox.

¡¥Let me tell you my story. My mum and I lived in a jungle three years ago. One day, a grizzly bear came and wanted to kill us. Wanting to save me, my mum sacrificed her life and became his meal! Oh, my dear, how could you live with that kind of killers!¡¦ cried the fox.

¡¥I feel sorry to your mishap, but my friend is not a killer,¡¦ replied the monkey, hesitatingly. ¡¥You know, the diet of bears is depending on what food are available in their habitat.¡¦ ¡¥Really? I trust you then, because you are my friend,¡¦ said the fox.

Suddenly, the grizzly bear came back and saw the fox. ¡¥Who are you?¡¦ asked the bear loudly. ¡¥Why are you speaking so loudly? Can¡¦t you be polite to my new friend?¡¦ shouted the monkey. ¡¥I am sorry,¡¦ said the bear softly. Then he turned to the fox, ¡¥sir, you seem to be a fox, right?¡¦ ¡¥Yes, you are right,¡¦ answered the fox gently, ¡¥I have to go now, see you tomorrow.¡¦ After the fox left, the bear said, ¡¥my friend, you better be careful of the fox. Foxes are cunning. He probably has other intentions.¡¦ ¡¥Hey, I am cleverer than you and all the other animals. I know what I am doing.¡¦ Replied the monkey impatiently. ¡¥Pride goes before a fall, dear,¡¦ said the bear. The monkey didn¡¦t want to listen to him so he climbed upon the tree and slept. Then the bear gave a groan and walked away slowly.

The second day, the fox came again.

¡¥Hello,¡¦ said the fox happily and excitedly. ¡¥Let¡¦s take an adventure!¡¦

¡¥What are you talking about?¡¦ asked the monkey curiously.

¡¥I found a treasure map last night!¡¦ answered the fox, showing the map to him.

¡¥A treasure map? What treasure is it?¡¦ asked the monkey, ¡¥pearls? Diamonds? I don¡¦t need these things.¡¦

¡¥Of course not! It¡¦s a forest, a banana trees forest!¡¦ replied the fox.

¡¥Really? That¡¦s a big surprise. Where is it?¡¦ inquired the monkey, excitedly.

¡¥Far away from here,¡¦ responded the fox, ¡¥there are some dangers hidden on the way to the forest. So I need you, my friend, I need you to help me.¡¦

The monkey seemed to be hesitant, so the fox continued,¡¦ my dearest friend, you are my only friend. You are brave, intelligent, powerful and courageous. Please come with me, I can¡¦t go without you.¡¦

¡¥Okay,¡¦ replied the monkey, ¡¥come here again tomorrow, I will tell you if I want to go or not.¡¦

¡¥Okay, but remember, opportunity seldom knocks twice,¡¦ said the fox and went away.

After that, the monkey told the bear about that. ¡¥It¡¦s so dangerous,¡¦ said the bear. ¡¥Nothing venture, nothing have,¡¦ said the monkey, ¡¥it¡¦s what you taught me!¡¦ ¡¥Yes, you are right, but nothing is as good as it seems beforehand,¡¦ replied the bear, feeling very worried. ¡¥The fox is strange. He has other intentions!¡¦ ¡¥No, he has no intention! I don¡¦t know why you have prejudice with him,¡¦ said the monkey angrily, ¡¥oh, it¡¦s very cold now; you better go hibernate, lazybones!¡¦ ¡¥My friend, why are you talking like this? I¡¦ve told you, I go hibernate because of the cold weather. I am not lazy,¡¦ replied the bear gently without anger, ¡¥all the things I am talking to you are good for you¡K¡¦ ¡¥I don¡¦t want to listen to you anymore!¡¦ shouted the monkey and ran away.

A week passed, the grizzly bear felt asleep. The monkey and the fox started their adventure. They soon came to a precipice.

¡¥My friend, I¡¦ve told you, your adventure is full of dangers,¡¦ said the fox cunningly, ¡¥this is the end of your life, poor monkey¡K¡¦

Suddenly, the monkey shouted, ¡¥look!¡¦ The fox looked down and was pushed by the monkey, dropped into the river below.

The monkey returned to the forest and found the bear had already hibernated. ¡¥Sorry, my friend,¡¦ said the monkey. The bear woke up unexpectedly. ¡¥I¡¦m glad that you came back. Worrying about you, I couldn¡¦t sleep well; now you are back, I will sleep well again!¡¦ said the bear. ¡¥Remember, good advice is harsh to the ear.¡¦
