DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The objective of the Programme is to lay a strong foundation for students in both the theory and practice of three areas, namely, management, law and accounting. Such fundamentals help equip students with the professional knowledge and skills in areas covering legal and company secretarial practices, accounting and financial management, human resources and managerial practices, the management of information systems, business communication skills and ethical values. On completion of the Programme, students are prepared to pursue careers in the public or private sectors, such as company secretaries, administrators and accountants.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The Programme is geared to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of the profession which enables them to assume a wide range of managerial and professional roles in the public and private sectors. Major employers include law and accountancy firms, company secretarial and trust companies, insurance companies, banking and financial institutions, government, educational institutes, public utilities, professional associations and charitable organizations.
ACCREDITATION AND EXEMPTION
The Professional Diploma Programme in Company Secretaryship and Administration previously offered by the College until the academic year 1997-98 has been accredited by a number of tertiary institutions in Australia, UK and the USA. On the basis of the institutional credit transfer arrangements, graduates of the Company Secretaryship and Administration Programme have been eligible for completion of the corresponding on-campus Bachelor degree programmes within one or two years.
Locally, the Open University of Hong Kong accredited the Professional Diploma in Company Secretaryship and Administration Programme and awarded block credits to its graduates towards completion of the University’s under-graduate degree in a related discipline of study.
The curriculum of the Higher Diploma in Company Secretaryship and Administration Programme is currently under review for quality assurance and enhancement purposes. The College is confident that the newly revised curriculum will experience no difficulty in securing the same accreditation status as has been accorded by the overseas and local tertiary institutions in the past.
TOP-UP DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Graduates of this Programme are also provided with the opportunity to upgrade their Diploma to a Bachelor’s Degree through part-time study in Hong Kong. They have the option to enroll in one of the two top-up Degree prgrammes offered in Hong Kong, namely, the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) by Charles Sturt University, Australia, and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Business Administration by the University of Huddersfield, UK. They can complete their studies within two years.
