TEACHING AND LEARNING FACILITIES
LIBRARY |
The College Library is to provide efficient services and well-organised resoures to support staff and students in their teaching, learning and research activities. The Library consists of the Caine Road Campus Library and the Oxford Road Campus Library. Library Collections focus mainly on materials for research and are of scholarly value. The Library on each of the two campuses has an extensive collection of books and journals for circulation and has a wide range of referenced materials such as government publications, company reports, prospectuses and past examination papers of professional bodies. A great variety of non-print materials such as audio cassettes, video cassettes and CD-ROMs are also available in the Library. |
COMPUTER CENTRE |
The Computer Centre develops and manages the computing and networking system of the College. It provides computing support and applications for both teachers and students. In additions, the Centre serves the College’s administrative needs through providing an integrated information system to support day-to-day operations and to satisfy the need for information in managerial decision making. In order to share and utilize the computer resources in an effective way, all computers and peripherals are connected to an Ethernet network, providing desktop computing power and on-line information retrieval services for all users. Powerful servers with Microsoft Windows NT, Novell Netware, and UNIX (Linux) are used to provide services for different workstations. There are in total four computer laboratories: two at the Caine Road Campus and tow at the Oxford Road Campus. These computer laboratories are equipped with PCs and printers for students’ practice and use.

LANGUAGE CENTRE | The
Language Centre is located on the 7th floor of the Caine Road
Campus. It offers flexible
and diverse ways for all students to increase their language
proficiency.
The Centre offers, on a regular basis, Language Enhancement Courses (LEC), which aim to improve students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The Centre also has a Self-Access Laboratory (SAL) which contains self-access learning materials in English, Chinese (Putonghua and Cantonese) and Japanese at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Students are encouraged to develop independent language learning strategies. Facilities which the SAL provides include the following: 1. Language booths 2. Self-access audio facilities 3. Computers 4. Interactive self-learning software 5. CD-ROMS 6. Televisions with VCRs 7. Self- access video facilities 8. Reference books, worksheets and newspapers The equipment and learning materials offer students more opportunity to improve their language skills at their own pace.

LANGUAGE LABORATORIES |
There are two Language Laboratories which provide facilities for training in a variety of languages including English, Chinese and Japanese, at different levels. The fully equipped Tandberg Education Language Laboratory at the Caine Road Campus and the infrared transmission headphone system at the Oxford Road Campus allow students to develop language skills individually, in pairs or groups. Students can perform tasks such as listening and oral practice, simultaneous interpretation and group conferencing.
