A: Fixer is a step in the development process. It is where the silver halides are neutralized so they can not develop into silver further, making the print permanent. If a print is exposed to light prior to a complete fixing, the silver halides will continue to develop and or fade over time. Beyond the basic fixer, chemicals are added to give it additional properties.
