A gerund is used like a NOUN in a sentence.
It is formed by adding 'ing' to the infinitive.

Examples :
Smoking is bad for you.
Do you like watching TV?

* Note some interesting changes for the infinitive when you form the following gerunds:-

Leave out the single 'e':

dance dancing
smoke smoking
make making
take taking

add an extra consonant after a single vowel:

run running
swim swimming
win winning
sit sitting

change 'ie' into 'y':

lie lying
die dying
