In 1989 the Hong Kong government’s plan to redevelop the district of Diamond Hill provided an opportunity for Chi Lin’s redevelopment. After ten years in planning and construction. Chi Lin Timber Monastery was opened to public in May 2000. It is the largest group of hand-crafted timber building in the present world, occupying over 30,000 square meters and has a total of sixteen halls.
