Fortunately for Mun(Leung Pui Wu), Fai's(Fong Chung Shun) shot lands on the robber's arm and she manages to break free. The robbers flee in their car and Fai gives chase. He is shot in the process and the robbers manage to escape once again. Fai is reprimanded by Wong sir for failing to wait for backup and jeopardizing civilian lives by drawing his gun in public.

Sing(Ekin Cheng) visits the crime scene and retrieves a matchbox bearing clues to the robbers' hideout. He shows it to Fai but he dismisses him curtly.

Sing decides to track down the robbers himself. He arrives at the robbers' hideout with Kit(Tsang Wai Kuen) to find Fai already there. Together they try to take down the robbers but they only manage to nab one while the rest escapes. Fai blames Sing for ruining his chances of capturing the robbers. Sing runs into Wong sir at the station and learns from him that he has passed the physical examination and that the notification letter has been sent out quite some time ago. Sing then confronts Mun about hiding the letter from him.

Sing and Kit are called as witnesses in the robbery case. The prosecutor in charge is Kwan(Maggie Siu). Even though she denies it, Kit is sure that she is his estranged girlfriend Kwan and is determined to woo her back.

Kit and Kwan used to date each other, he was Kwan's first love. When Kwan left HK for her studies abroad, Kit had promised to write her everyday. But as the years went by, the letters became few and sparse until there was hardly any letters from him anymore. Kwan took it that Kit had decided to break off with her. Now that they meet again, she finds it hard to forgive him.

Sing apologises to Mun for lashing out at her about hiding the letter from him. He tells her that he has decided to join CID and wants her to help him keep it a secret from his parents.

On his first day at CID, Wong assigns Sing as Fai's protege. Friction immediately sparks between them when Sing refuses to condone Fai's way of using excessive force when interrogating criminals.

While out hunting for the robbers one day, Sing gets up from his ambush position to help a crippled man get out of the way but the man turns around instead and points a gun to Sing's head.
