Cheng is a middle class white collar worker leading a comfortable life who suddenly finds himself undergoing a major crisis when he is laid off by his company. His problems are compounded when his wife Lau decides to leave him. Feeling despair, Cheng returns to his ancestral home in mainland China where he starts his own business selling perfume. He gets into a dispute with Lai over the repossession of the property but his wife's cousin Cheung helps him get the matter resolved. The rest of the story depicts how Cheng and the mainland Chinese are able to look past their prejudices of each other and come to accept one another as individuals.
