Hui is a cop leading a happy life with his wife Ma, and two teenage children. Liu is a car wash guy who likes to gamble. He is gifted (or should I say cursed?) with the ability to communicate with the world of the spirits. Many ghosts have sought his help to bring messages to their friends and family. Two of these ghosts in particular have become good friends with him.

During a robbery attempt at a bank, Hui and Liu and the other bank customers are told to get down on the floor. When Liu attempts to fight the robbers (I think it was to save a pregnant lady's life), Hui joins in the fight and is killed in the event. The spirit of Hui(hereafter just referred to as Hui) refuses to leave the world of the living because he feels that his family is not well prepared enough to deal with his death. He blames Liu for causing his death and begins to haunt him around wherever he goes. When he learns that Liu has the ability to hear him, he starts to pester him to let him use his body for seances(問米) to see his wife and family again.

The rest of the story focuses on how Hui and Liu help Ma who is a housewife get over the grief of losing Hui and learn to become independent. Only when he sees his family rebound from his death does Hui finally leave for the spiritual world.
