I can't remember this series too well. I can only provide a brief description of what happens to each of the characters in this series.

Tony Leung is a police cadet officer in charge of training new cadets. Margie Tsang joins the cadet to get away from her mother who tends to pick on her a lot. Margie is constantly avoiding Chan Ting Wai who is an aggressive admirer of hers. She later falls in love with Tony and they get married.

Margie's sister Chk Mei Jan works as a script writer for a television station. She meets Chow Yun Fat when Chow delivered some groceries to her house one day. Before long, they are dating each other. Chow has recently arrived from mainland China with his mother. He tries to seek support from his brother, father of Tony and Carina, but is turned away. That prompts him to study even harder for his medical doctor's exam. In the meantime, he works as a store clerk at Carina Lau's mini-mart.

Carina finally grants Lau Ching Wan the divorce he wants. She manages to support herself and her son by starting her own mini-mart. Lui Fong is still standing by Carina, hoping she will come to accept him one day. His hope is crushed when Carina becomes involoved with Suen Ming Kwong, an ICAC officer.

The villain of the series is played by Simon Yam. His feud with Tony Leung begins when his subordinates get into an argument with Tony and his team in a restaurant, intensifying the rivalry between the two teams thereafter. Next, he repeatedly plots to destroy Chow Yun Fat and Chik Mei Jan's relationship in order for himself to be with Jan. He is directly responsible for ruining Chow's chances of becoming a doctor. It happened when Chow gets his hands on a fake $500 note one day. During a dispute with a store owner, he uses the fake $500 note in the spur of the moment to teach the highly arrogant store owner a lesson. He is caught and brought to the police station where Simon works at. With just the two of them in Simon's office, Chow is led to believe that he can trust Simon and divulge what had actually transpired. However, the moment he confesses he had used the counterfeit money intentionally, Simon turns around and charges him with fraud. As a result, Chow carries with him a criminal record and is barred from becoming a doctor. Chik ends up marrying Simon.

Fat turns to illegal smuggling and manages to make a fortune for himself. Simon and Chan Ting Wai also becomes involved with accepting illegal bribes and kills Suen Ming Kwong when Suen stumbles on evidence against them.
