The HKMAO was formed in 1989 by the Hong Kong Medical Association. Dr. C H Leong,  the president of HKMA, at the time, and his wife, Dr.Lilian Leong were both enthusiastic supporters of our orchestra and so were his successors, Dr. David Fang and Dr. K H Lee, and Dr. KM So.
 
We have held numerous concerts in the City Hall Concert Hall, the Concert Hall in the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, the former Governor's House, the St Paul's Chapel as well as in hospitals and old age homes. Past performances have raised a total of over 16 million HK dollars. People, organizations and projects benefited include the Hospice Service, the Thalasaemia Foundation, the Aids Foundation, the rebuilding of the Chinese Medical Association site in Beijing, the Flood Victims in China,  the Evangelist Hospital, the Life Express (servicing the medical needs in rural China) and many others.
