The Movie

Two families, bound by tradition, are locked in a brutal war.

Asian and African American gangs are vying for control of Oakland's Waterfront.  But when the first causality is the Asian warlord's son Po, the gang war becomes more dangerous than either side ever imagined.

News of the murder gets back to Po's big brother Han, a decorated ex-cop wrongly imprisoned in a Hong Kong jail.  And it's only a matter of time before Han makes his way to American shores.

An outsider in his own family in search of the truth, Han uncovers nothing except more questions.  And he has become a target, not only to the African American camp, but also to faceless assassins whose firepower reaches far beyond the working-class waterfront.

My Thoughts Movie Ratings

It is very hard to rate this movie.  Do you compare it to Jet's previous films?  Or to other Hollywood action movies?  I think that Romeo Must Die has to be rated for what it is - Jet Li's first full-length Hollywood  Starring role!  In this movie Jet does get to show some glimpses of what he can do martial arts wise, but he was still very limited with his script, and therefore, didn't get the opportunity to show his acting skills properly!  It is a good movie, not a great one, but above average.  The 2 major problems that I found were that there was too many slow points throughout the movie where nothing seemed to be happening, and after a while, the music started getting very annoying.  The two best scenes in the movie are by far the prison scene and the football scene, but the film needed a lot more to have a full effect.  At least with Hong Kong made movies, you can't always notice when wires are being used - unlike in Romeo Must Die!
