During 1995-2001, Citybus introduced 142 Volvo Olympians in four different batches.
The first batch, 901 to 950, came in 1995-6 as Citybus found out that 10.4 metre Olympians could not handle the large passenger capacity on some of the hilly routes. These buses are equipped with Volvo D10 engines and Voith D863 transmissions for use of hilly routes. They had yellow comparment handles, 2+2 seats, continuous lightings and grey floors.
The second batch, 951 to 980, was introduced in late 1997. Like the previous batch, the buses are powered by Volvo D10 engines and Voith D863 transmissions. However, the interior floor of the buses is grey instead and the handles in the compartment are red.
The third batch, 981 to 1000, was introduced some later. This time, the buses are equipped with ZF5HP500 transmissions and Volvo D10 engines. However, their appearance is very similar to that of the previous batch, except for the position of the diesel inlet.
The fourth batch of 40, 1001 to 1040, was introduced later and they were fitted with electronic displays. Like the previous batch, these buses are equipped with ZF5HP500 transmissions and Volvo D10 engines. Besides, they are equipped with electronic route displays, just like 636-699.
The fifth batch of two, 1041 and 1042, entered service in 2001. They were two ex-CMB double- deckers which were not sold to NWFB in 1998. Citybus did not make significant changes to the buses except for the all new electronic route displays and continuous lightings in the compartment. For more information and photos of these two buses, please click here to go to the special page.
