Horses to follow for 2002 - 2003

Not so many good ones this year...

  1. Winning Laurels - has great confirmation and a good running style.  Although a ISG, it shouldnt put people off.  Should be useful over 1800m +, perhaps a derby prospect.  Big worry is that YO Wong trains, and is not reliable i.e. Scotia and Strong Scotch - good horses that messed up.
  2. Prince Golf - breeding attracts me to him more than anything.  By the mare Romanee Conti who herself won an HK International race and has produced a Melbourne Cup winner already.  In horseracing, class breeds class.  Again the trainer is the big worry.
  3. Oriental Pearl - Every one knows about this guy already.  Probably not world class material but should climbs the ratings.
  4. Bit Faster - Full brother to Oriental Treasure whose had too many injury problems to ever reach his full potential.  Touch wood this one is more durable.  Should be a useful stayer .
  5. Champ Dragon - This horse broke his maiden status in griffin year beating some very nice horses.  That race Speed Master came second and Wise Choice came third.  Too bad Speed Master retired or else he would have single handedly have keep David Hill's trainer's license for next year.  Anyway Wise Choice has already won, I expect this guy to follow the trend.

Sires who are overated:-

Hennessy - horses by him are very precocious and dont seem to train on (i.e. Johannesburg).  Only Paradis has managed to win in HK.  I'll be impressed if he can do it again this season.

Centaine - All his progeny look like Class1 but they run like Class 6.  Bad mental problems and never getting their head down.  It's going to take a real good jockey and trainer to see them win.

Volksraad - You pay peanuts you get peanuts.

Citidancer - Always bet your balls on them when they run first up.  Practically guaranteed to win,  After that, stay away like it's the plaque.  Ivan Allan owns this sire, notice how he doesnt have a Citidancer older than 3 in his stable?  They dont train on.

Brocco - Not much of his progeny around, the secret to this breed is wet ground maybe even dirt - also temperamental.

Scenic - another wet ground freak.

Season now over, you can judge for yourself...

PPGs to follow for this season 2001-2002

Lightening Bolt - Wonderfully bred, being out of a Group 1 producing dam in AUS.  Although restricted to sprints so far, he will clearly get a mile once Cruz stops flaffling about.

Rising Index - Half-brother to Moon Solitaire in the UK, who happens to be a decent handicapped stayer.  Will stay 2400m easily, is a very nice prospect for distant trips.
