Eligibility
The HLQHA is only open to quarter horses and appendix quarter horses (QH x TB). There are very specific rules about registering horses with this association as you will see below. The HLQHA follows the same rules as the AQHA in regards to registration eligibility as reflected in the requirements below. If you have a question about whether or not your horse is eligible for registration in the HLQHA, please e-mail Liberty for clarification BEFORE you attempt to register.
In order to register with the HLQHA a horse MUST:
Be a full-blooded quarter horse or appendix quarter horse (QH x TB).
Be registered with the Hay! Land Equine Registry.
Be of a color recognized by the HLQHA. These colors are: bay, black, brown, chestnut, dun, red dun, grullo, buckskin, palomino, gray, red roan, blue roan, bay roan, cremello, perlino. For descriptions of these colors please refer to AQHA rule #228.
A horse is NOT eligible if:
They have white markings with underlying white skin beyond any of the following lines:
- A line parallel to the ground drawn around the front leg at the point halfway between the point of the elbow and the protrusion on the back of the knee.
- A line parallel to the ground at the center of the gaskin on the hnd legs.
- A line around the horse's neck immediately behind the poll and through the midpoint of the throat latch.
- Within an area described as two inches on either side of the ventral midline, beginning at a point midway between the front legs and extending to, and including the sheath and udder.
- Additionally, only one area of white markings with underlying which skin that can be covered with a disk one inch in diameter, either free standing on the horse's body of being a portion of white marking extending past the lines mentioned above.
- Markings as mentioned above that fall on the sheath or udder, in the armpits, or inside the hind legs do not disqualify a horse from registration.
Their dam was exposed to more than one stallion in a 30 day period that could possibly be the sire. This can include (but is not limited to) an intentional breeding or being turned out with more than one stallion of breeding age.
They posess markings characteristic of a paint, pinto, or appaloosa. If a horse develops such markings after registration their registration number may be revoked.
Horses produced by any form of cloning are not permitted to be registered with the HLQHA.
