Horse Descriptions

  • A FUTURITY HORSE is a horse age 2 or 3 (as specified in the HLQHA classlist).
  • A GREEN WORKING HUNTER is for a horse in their first year of showing or one who has not earned ten (10) AQHA points in working hunter for jumping classes.

  • A JUNIOR HORSE is a horse currently age 6 or under. This means the horse has not reached their 6th birthday before January 1st of the current calendar year. Junior horse classes are considered open classes and are traditionally ridden by pro exhibitors.

  • A NOVICE HORSE (as applied to cutting) is a horse that has not previously earned 25 points in HLQHA cutting classes. These points are calculated from the first HLQHA show in which the horse competes until their current status.

  • A SENIOR HORSE is a horse currently age 7 or older. This means the horse reached the 7th birthday before January 1st of the current year. Senior horse classes are considered open classes and are traditionally ridden by pro exhibitors.
