Hester was born in Polk Co., Tx, son of Joseph
Hardy and Myra Warren Matthews, January 5, 1911.

I do know that Joseph Hardy Matthews and some of his family lived in Oklahoma
some time in the 1930's, because my Dad, Hardy Lee, told me about spending a
winter in Oklahoma and living in a tent when he was a teen-ager. I'm sure my
grandmother, Bessie. was with them, since she would hardly let my Dad out of
her sight, even after he was grown and married.

Also, My Grandfather, Joseph Hardy was blind the last several years of his
life. He and my Grandmother, Bessie, were divorced in 1940, before he died
in 1941.

Who knows, he sure had a lot of children. What's another one or two gonna
hurt?

I heard, from another cousin, about another son, named Leo. He was the son
of Joseph Hardy and Myra Warren Matthews, and burned to death when his
nightshirt caught fire while his mother was doing chores outside. My Dad had
told me he had a brother that had fallen in the fireplace and burned to death.

He was married to Laura GASSIOT on 13 Jan 1889 in Polk Co., TX.. Laura GASSIOT⁽¹⁾ was born on 22 Jun 1866. She died on 18 May 1900. Joseph Hardy MATTHEWS I and Laura GASSIOT had the following children:

She was born on 11 Jul 1892. She died on 29 May 1965 in Corrigan, Polk Co., TX.. Joseph Hardy MATTHEWS I and Euginia Elizabeth "Bessie" KELSEY had the following children:
