Researcher:
Sue Waldrop of Washington State.

Sarah "Sally" PITTS (daughter of Henry * PITTS I and Mary DUDGEON) died before 1822. [Note: HLW ---The "Bicentennial History of Newberry Co., SC." says that Sarah Pitts, daughter of Henry Pitts and Mary Dudgeon married a Waldrop. However, there is no Sarah Pitts listed as a daughter of Henry Pitts and Mary Dudgeon in the estate court records. Only Milly Pitts is named as wife of "Abram" Waldrop. I think it very possible that Sarah "Sally" Pitts never existed. If she did exist, she must have died before Dec. 1817 when the court records were recorded.] Abraham WALDROP and Sarah "Sally" PITTS had the following children:

child48 i. Artemas Pitts WALDROP was born about 1807 in Laurens Co., S.C.. He died on 1 May 1829 in Newberry Co., S.C.. Died without issue. Artemas P. Waldrop never married. Another death location is reported as Laurens Co., SC. but following records seems to show Newberry Co. He may also have been born in Newberry Co.

Estate Records: Box 58, pkg. 141, Estate #1458. Administration granted General John K. Griffin 1 Jun 1829. Gen. Griffin filed no returns nor settlements of the estate. Only the following is recorded:
22 Sep 1830 Isaac Waldrop $122.25
5 Jan 1832 Isaac Waldrop $100.00
27 Sep 1832 David Waldrop $200.00
20 Dec 1832 Elihu Waldrop $200.00 (his father Solomon's share)
10 Nov 1834 Jehu Pitts $397.85 [maternal uncle]
12 Nov 1834 Milly Waldrop $397.85 [maternal aunt]
11 Oct 1834 Jane Johnston $397.85 [maternal aunt]
29 Oct 1834 Richard Henderson Waldrop $397.85
10 Nov 1834 Ben. J. Butler $397.85
18 Aug 1834 David Pitts $397.85 [father's full share per court decree Newberry Jul 1834
19 Jun 1835 Samuel Waldrop $57.00 [for Mrs. Waldrop, wife of David]
12 Aug 1835 David Y. Boyd $37.50 [for wife Tabitha Waldrop]
12 Aug 1835 Cleburn and Henry Waldrop $37.50 [from father, John Waldrop's share]
10 Oct 1835 Peter Julien $37.50 [for wife Catherine from father John Waldrop's share]
3 Nov 1836 Wm. C. and Elizabeth Smith $497.85 [formerly Elizabeth Pitts] residents of Lincoln Co., TN.

This seems to indicate that Artemas died leaving no widow or children but fairly wealthy.

He was married to Millender "Milly" PITTS (daughter of Henry * PITTS I and Mary DUDGEON) before 1823. Millender "Milly" PITTS died before 11 Mar 1846 in Newberry Co., S.C.. 1826 --- Deed Book "T - 2" p. 311 Newberry Co., SC. dated 25 Mar 1826: Milly Waldrop to John K. Griffin, certain slaves.......

1846 --- Estate Box 7, pkg. 201 estate #1989 (signed 13 Dec 1845, probated 11 Mar 1846)
Will of Milly Waldrop:
Legatees named: "to my friend, B.F. Griffin plantation where I live...to my firend Simon Brooks $50 for his kindness to me...to my friend Susan Waldrop [Note: widow of Samuel] $300...to my old servant, Silvy." Witnesses: H.W. Pasley, Saml. McAteer, John S. Brooks. Executor B.F. Griffin. [Note HLW --- It appears that Jefferson had died prior to his mother, if he was a son. In any event, there were no children mentioned in the will.] Abraham WALDROP and Millender "Milly" PITTS had the following children:

child49 i. Jefferson WALDROP was born about 1826. [Note: HLW ---This child, Jefferson Waldrop is attributed to Abraham Waldrop and Mary "Polly" Pitts, daughter of Thomas James Pitts and Nancy Waldrop, daughter of Solomon Waldrop and Sarah Jane Aultom.

If this is correct, then Abraham Waldrop who married Mary Polly Couch has been confused with this Abraham, and this Jefferson, is the same person as the Jefferson Waldrop, son of Abraham who married Mary Polly Couch.]

Note: There were two Jefferson Waldrops born about the same time. One was born in SC, and is in the 1850 census of Newberry Co., Sc, living with John Williams. The other (son of Abraham and Mary "Polly" Couch Waldrop) was born in Georgia and was in his own household with wife Nancy in the 1850 census of Butts Co., Georgia.--jd
