I was informed this morning that Mrs. Johnnie Waldrop McGann, age 96 died last night.

She was the oldest Waldrop of my family. She will be buried at 2 P.M. Wednesday 1 December 1999 in Vernon, TX. Services will be held at the Church of Christ in Vernon. Sulivan's Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.

I only saw my Great Aunt Johnnie a few times. She was a wonderful person. Born after her father died at age 35, she was the last of her family. A sister of my grandfather Leon Gossett Waldrop. She was raised without a father, but always tried to live up to his expectations of her. I was told she died peacefully. One more Waldrop for the Great Reunion in the Sky. As always God Bless, H.L.

child+933 iv. Leon Gossett WALDROP was born on 10 Nov 1896 in Howe, Grayson Co., TX.. He was buried in Feb 1978 in Hillcrest Cem., McLean, Gray Co., TX.. He died on 23 Feb 1978 in Shamrock, Wheeler Co., TX.. Marriage record returned and filed 26 Dec 1919, Gray County, TX. Married by S.R. Jones, Ordained Minister. Death Record, Shamrock, Wheeler Co., TX. Leon Waldrop was once the forman for the Sitter Ranch, south of McLean, TX. He later became a fence contractor, building barbed wire fences all over the pandhandle of Texas. He built the fences for Interstate 40 throughout the area. Leon was tall [about 6 ft.] had blue eyes, and loved to waltz. He played the fiddle, always wore a western hat, and was a gentle man. He once roped a cyote off the back of a horse at full gallop. He owned land N. of McLean, TX. and later S.W. of the city. Since he was the only son, and supported his mother, he was not required to serve in World War I. He owned a Hotel, and Gasoline [Lone Star] Station, both in McLean. Informant: H.L. Waldrop, D.D.S.
