Name: Achyra ("Ah-_kie_-ruh") Sex: female, heterosexual; Age: 20 turns; Rank: Transferring goldrider Place of Birth: Medeil Sea Cothold, near Telgar Hold Family: No children, no spouses. Her parents are Mirle, who is a 44-turn-old journeyman cook at Telgar Hold; and Anton, a 47-turn-old Tower Watchguard at Telgar Hold. Her siblings are her sister Sevwyn, who is 19 turns old and a Junior Journeywoman Smith at Telgar Hold's SmithCraft Hall; and her brother Deilan, who is 18 turns old and a Candidate at Fort Weyr awaiting the next hatching, and who is also continuing his training as a Woodcrafter on the side. Physical: She has shoulder-length, straight black hair and large, expressive slate-blue eyes that are slightly tilted up at the corners, set within her dark complexion (slightly past tanned). Her nose is a bit too large for good looks, and it protrudes distinctively from her oval-shaped face. Her facial features are angular, and her cheekbones are well-defined. Her facial expression is usually found to be cool and calm. She stands at 5'7" and weighs 150 lbs. Most of that weight is muscle, since she wakes early every day to take a run before others are out and about, to keep in shape. Her build is wiry and lithe, with small hard muscles on her body ((think 'greyhound')). One distinguishing feature of hers is the dimple in her right cheek. Achyra is ambidextrous, but she favors her right hand over her left. She is very meticulous when it comes to fashion sense. She sticks to low-key clothing that is tailored to fit her body well enough so that it is neither too tight nor too loose to hinder movement in any way, or attract undue attention. She prefers breeches over skirts any day, due to their practicality, but when it comes to formal occasions, she does like to indulge herself in pretty gowns. Even then, however, her personality comes out in the dresses' simplicity of design. She always dresses in dark pastels unless the day is overwarm, liking dark lavender, powder blue, and charcoal gray in formal clothing; and sleeveless tunics, soft-soled boots, and dark-hued trousers for everyday use. Her personal accessories are few; a delicate, silver chain-link anklet, and a bone-handled boot-knife with a scarlet-obsidian pommel-stone. Personality: The goldrider used to be a warm, fun-loving young woman who was fairly reckless and carefree in spirit. However, since her Impression of the gold Disireth, she's become more somber and reserved, more serious than playful. She still enjoys the occasional Feast, Gather, or other similar festivities, but she has found that being a goldrider holds quite a few responsibilities. Now she is almost always brisk and businesslike in her quest to prove herself capable of being a junior Weyrwoman, consistently putting work before play. This doesn't mean that she's unfriendly, just that she's distracted from the usual social activities. Achyra is a young woman who's struggling to find the perfect balance between and business and pleasure. She's usually quite companionable in small circles of friends, usually four or five at the most; she would rather be with a few close buddies than in a group full of acquaintances. She's a romantic dreamer at heart, though wild runners couldn't drag that admission from her lips. Her personal hobbies include keeping in shape, drawing, music, and baking. (Though she's not terribly good at either of the latter two, she does have a fair knack at capturing the spirit of a moment in charcoal or ink.) She has a nervous tick in her right temple when she gets extremely furious, and has a tendency to hum under her breath while doing manual labor. Her patience is especially thin when it comes to those who refuse to put their fair share of the work, those who bully the underdogs, and those who are loud, obnoxious, and believe themselves to be supreme. She holds no illusions about herself in that last respect; she believes that everyone has a place and duty to perform and uphold. History: Achyra was born at Medeil Sea Cothold, near Telgar Hold, where she spent twelve blissful years of a pleasant childhood. She is the eldest of three children that Mirle and Anton had together, all of them unique in their own respects. Even as a child of four turns, Achyra showed particular interest in the flora and fauna of Pern; all Mirle had to do to put her to sleep was to lay the young babe down outside, and she would drift off to the sounds of day passing into night. In the following turns, she also showed affinity for the woodland creatures, forming a rapport with small furries and large beasts alike. Admittedly, some didn't fully like the human-cub who smelled too much like humans, but even those creatures tolerated her bright presence. She was a laugher and a singer-- tinkling bells and a beautiful voice, but these qualities, along with her ability to connect with animals, faded over time as the "human-cub" became more and more human. Still, even as her voice deepened to a lower tone and she proved to be an early bloomer, she never lost her love for nature, both on land and underwater. From her twelfth to her fifteenth turn, Achyra was obviously maturing faster than her peers. She showed more interest in learning new things than in romping in the fields. She was just as eager to talk to adults as she was to talk to others her age. Her childish exuberance toned down, and she was seen spending more thoughtful, reflective time by herself as she watched. And watched. And kept on doing so to satisfy her curiosity. This odd behavior quickly isolated her from everybody else; no one else spent so much time observing people or nature as she did. She was privately labeled as an "odd but pleasant" child who would "probably turn out rightly" but was "too nosy for her own good" then. She heard them whispering about her every once in awhile, but it didn't bother her much-- because most of it was true. She was simply curious about how and why things worked or happened, and if others had a problem with it, then oh well. Her family was understanding of this, though, particularly her siblings. Her parents were hardworking people (a trait she definitely picked up from youth), and often didn't have all that much time to raise the children themselves, but Achyra and her two siblings were an independent bunch, supporting each other themselves if the need arose-- another reason why Mirle and Anton were so proud of their three children. Sevwyn and Deilan often discussed dreams and fancies among themselves, finding a quiet place apart from their peers to just sit and talk and relax; they were just as serious-minded at times as she was. To this day, Achyra is dearly attached to them, and often writes to them. At fifteen turns, she left home to gain an apprenticeship at the HealerHall of Fort Hold; however, nary two turns had passed before a bluerider landed at the Hall to pick up some scrolls, when the dragon Searched her for Fort Weyr's clutch, which had just been laid. She was excited at this new prospect and readily agreed to stand for the Hatching, and was doubly pleased to find that her brother had also been Searched for the clutch. However, neither one Impressed at that standing, and though both were obviously disappointed, they resumed their lives, this time from the Weyr. Both stood for Fort's next clutch, and again, both were disappointed. So, when news came that High Reaches was looking for more Candidates at their clutch, she volunteered to be transferred there for the hatching, which no one objected to. There, she amazed even herself when she Impressed the gold Disireth! The following two turns were spent in weyrling training, and once she graduated as a full rider, it was decided that she and some of the other riders would be transferred to less populated Weyrs to make room for future clutches. She alone was transferred to Silver Shores Weyr. Name: Disireth ("_Diz_-zy-_reth_") Color: Gold; Age: 2 turns; Sire/Dam: Transfer; Where Impressed: High Reaches Weyr Physical: Disireth is slightly smaller than the average gold. She has dark honey-gold hide tinted with a reddish-gold cast, and yellow-gold splotches on her muzzle and underbelly. Her particularly distinguishing mark is a white-gold, three-pointed mark on her left flank about half a handspan in diameter. She has no scarring on her hide. Her wing membranes are also streaked with yellow-gold splotches, and her wingspan is proportional to her size. Her neck is average in length, but her tail is slightly longer than normal. Personality: Disireth is somewhat fussy in nature. She demands a great amount of attention from her rider, and won't accept anything less than pure devotion, which Achyra is usually happy to supply. She's neutral in attitude towards the children as long as they don't try to pull her tail or poke her eyes. The gold is reluctant to speak to humans other than her rider, and only barely tolerates flits, though she does find them amusing. (In this manner, she takes after her dam, who once snapped a firelizard into her mouth when the unsuspecting flit ventured too close to her clutch.) She doesn't usually flirt with the males, but does enjoy the company of other dragons, despite her indifference and aloofness towards their riders.
