Pedley, Tully, North Queenland, Australia 01-19-1966
"Saucer Nests"

George Pedley of Tully, North Queensland, Australia, was driving his tractor through Albert Pennisi's neighboring cane farm at 9 a.m. on January 19, 1966,he dexcribes in detail his close encounter. He saw a bluish -gray "spaceship" rise out of Horeshoe Lagoon, a swamp about 26 yards in front of him. The ship was about 25 feet wide, and 9 feet high. Pedley observed the ship spin at a tremendous speed while it rose vertically, then dove slightly and rose again sharply. The craft then headed off in a southwesterly direction at an incredible speed. Pedley lost sight of the vessel in seconds.

Pedley investigated the spot where the UFO had landed, he found a depressed circular area about 30 feet in diameter. The reeds within the circle were all bent below the water level. The reeds were dead and swirled around in a clockwise manner. Pedley noticed a sulfurous odor in the area around the "nest" after the UFO departed.

Investigation of the circular area revealed a nine-inch layer of reed within the circle. The reeds were all torn out by the roots and floating on five feet of water. Three large holes were discovered under the "nest". The holes were thought to be landing indentations. Two other "nests" were later discovered only 25 yards from the first one.

The official verdict was that the " nests" were " the results of severe turbulence, which normally accomapany line squalls and thunderstorms prevalent in North Queensland at that time of year." The weather, however, was bueatiful that day.

Note: On May 5,1965 just a year before the Pedley encounter an Australian pilot flying a DC-6 over the same area, reported that he was being followed by a UFO. The flatten sphere followed for several minutes allowing the pilot time to take several good pictures before it flew away.

He was ordered by radio to leave the film unprocessed until he reached Canberra. When he landed in Canberra military authorities took the roll and also the ground-to-air recordings from the airport of the encounter.

The Australian government deny this encounter ever took place.
