Schedule of Events

At most events in California you will find the House of Boyd Society Tent next to the Clan Stewart in America, Inc. tent.

Lauren Boyd, President and Northen California Convenor for the House of Boyd Society, will be hosting the Clan Boyd tent at the California events unless otherwise noted. Please stop by and spend some time visiting with us. Remember, the Boyd tent is your "home base" at the games! We will have some new hand-outs this year.

The Tartan Dinner is a monthly gathering held on the 4th Sunday of each month except December. We invite you to bring your family and friends to this dutch treat dinner at Star Restaurant in Novato, CA. The menu is varied and reasonable. Separate checks for all. What else would you expect from a group of Scots?

We are a group of folks interested in things Scots. Comprised of people involved in the Scottish Games, Genealogy, History, weaving and design of Tartan, travel to Scotland, of Scottish descent, interested in things Scots and...? It is an informal group begun a few years ago by Jeff Kelly and Tom Watson to give them an opportunity [excuse!] to wear their kilts at other than the Scottish Games. Kilt wearing is encouraged but isn't required. Dress as you feel comfortable, however, if you have a bit o' Tartan, be it a tie or a scarf, do wear it.

January

Tartan Dinner
6th Annual "Bobbie" Burns Night

5:30 pm Jan 23, 2005

Star Restaurant
Corner of 7th St. and Novato Blvd
Novato, CA

This month's dinner is a special night for us. If you have the full kilt regalia including Prince Charlie and want to dress up, please do. If you do not have the full regalia, or have not purchased a kilt yet, please do not let that stop you from joining us! Dress as you are comfortable.

Our Bobbie Burns Dinner traditionally begins with visiting and socializing as usual. We typically have Scots music in the background on CD. [T'would be nice to have a real live piper, but alas, not so far.] There is a book or two of Burns poetry on hand for those that feel moved to read aloud. And we celebrate the evening with the Scottish National Dish --- Haggis! There will be an Address to the Haggis.

Please RSVP

When you RSVP, please let me know how many will be attending and if you like haggis or not and how much you like it so I can plan how much to have on hand. Each year we have had a haggis virgin or two try the wonderful puddin' for the very first time.

128th Annual

Sacramento Valley Scottish Games and Gathering

Yolo County Fairgrounds, Woodland, California
April 24, 25 2004

In 1999 the House of Boyd Society and the Clan Stewart Society of America, Inc. won the award for the best clan tent display. We shared four tent areas with Boyds on one side and the Stewarts on the other side but integrated in such a way that the judges had to give the award to both clans. This was not a joint award but two separate first place trophies.

Oct. 24, 2004
Fremont Presbyterian Church
5770 Carlson Dr.
Scaremento CA

This is the last event on our games schedule. It is a most impressive ceremony with the Sacramento Pipe Band, Choir and organ.

If you like a little Pomp and Circumstance you will love the processional lead by the Beadle [Keeper of the Word]in full Highland regalia in the Clergy Tartan followed by the clergy, the Sacramento Pipe Band, choir, the colorguard and the clan representatives in kilt carrying a tartan plaid to be blessed.

The most inspiring moment for me is to hear the pipe band play Highland Cathedral accompanied by the 70 voice choir and organ.

Dr. Baird always puts a Scottish twist to his message of inspiration before blessing the Tartan.

After each service we gather in the courtyard for conversation coffee and shortbread. There is also some entertainment with song and highland dancers.
