The mixed dinghies series enjoyed some excellent racing last Sunday in the fresh conditions. With a northerly breeze blowing down the harbour the Multihulls revelled in the fresh conditions. Jim Sheeran sailing with Chris Sheeran showed a consistent results in Race One and two and led the fleet around the course. Meanwhile the battle was going on for 2nd place between Mark Donegan sailing with Orla Duggan in their Laser II against Kevin Boyd and Simon Woodward in their Spitfire. The Spitfire taking 2nd place by seconds from the laser 2, however the race results were to be reversed in Race 2 with Mark Donegan and Orla Duggans Laser two taking 2nd position with the spitfire coming third. Race three saw the closest race of the day when Yvonne Sheehan sailing her tiger led the fleet at the top Mark with Jim Sheeran’s tiger close on her heels. With the two tiger’s fighting it out on the down wind leg, the spifire set chase. However the gusty northerly breeze caught the spifire unawares and left the team swimming in the harbour. The race leader cam down to the final mark rounding with Yvonne Sheehan gaining the inside line on the leeward and crossed the finish line two seconds ahead of Jim Sheeran’s Tiger. The overall standings after three races, Jim Sheeran – 4pts, Kevin Boyd - 9 pts, Yvonne Sheehan -10pts.

F18 Worlds Koksijde Belgium July 7th – 13th
The fleet comprised of 102 registered boats, varying from Olympic catamaran sailors to F18 Supremo's from 11 nations competing in varied conditions. A women’s team of, Elaine Taylor Ballyholme and Yvonne Sheehan Royal Cork Yacht Club represented Ireland.
The Irish pair finished 1st Women’s Team and 15th overall in the Silver Fleet.
Day one was sailed in a moderate force three and sunny conditions, Emmanuel and Vincent BOULOGNE (FRA) and Darren BUNDOCK and Glen ASHBY took full advantage, leading their respective flights in the qualification stage of the regatta. The Irish scored two 20th places and a 38th.
After day two of qualification was cancelled, due to lack of wind, it was down to the wire to decide the final places for the fleet split into Gold and Silver for the final races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and after a few protests were heard, the final split was decided.
Four races were sailed on Friday and it was Bundock and Ashby who dominated the first three, with a second and two firsts, however, they beat themselves to the overall lead by being black flagged in the fourth.
The World championship was won by, the Boulogne brothers on the penultimate day of racing. In difficult light to medium, choppy conditions, they succeeded in hammering home their advantage with two firsts in the bag. A sixth on the final day clinched it from Colby and Comenisch in second and Bundock and Ashby left thinking “what if”, in third.
The silver fleet only managed one race on the final day, as the time limit for starting the fleet was exceeded; when the fleet were called back three times on general re-calls. The Irish put in their best performance on the last race, finishing in 8th position, and this was enough to secure them the first women’s team placing at the 2003 f18 Worlds.
There were very balanced results in the Silver fleet, with no less than seven different designs in the top ten: CIRRUS, HUNTER, NACRA, MATTIA, MYSTERE, TWISTER, HOBIE TIGER ... proving the club sailors still do have a real choice in buying their F18 from their favourite dealer.
