Welcome to The Band's Blog! I will attempt to write an ongoing account of what has been going on in my life and what I hope to have go on in the future.
You are probably wondering why it's called "The Band's Blog"? Fair enough, well you see ever since I can remember people have associated my name, which is Steve Miller, with some dude who named his rock band after himself. This rockstar's name is Steve Miller and now you probably get the picture... I've been listening to this same joke forever and that's how we arrive here! I think it's hilarious when people refer to themselves in the third person and even more funny when they refer to a nickname they give themselves. So fuck it... "The Band plays on..."
"The Band" (me), came to Alberta in early June 2006, just in time to see the Edmonton Oilers reach and play in the Stanley Cup Finals only to lose to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games. Now I didn't come here to watch the Oilers - I'm a Canucks fan - I just got here around the same time. I actually came here to make some cash in the Oil Patch - surprise, surprise! As it turns out, I grew up being a closet Hartford Whalers fan also (due to the Whalers having the original Canuck clours in their uniforms - green/blue). So when the Hurricanes won the Cup you'll have to forgive The Band for not being overly disappointed.
When The Band got here (Alberta) I didn't know "Shit from shinola!" (as my dad says) with regards to the patch. Now I wouldn't say I know a lot now - but I do know considerably more than when I started. For example, the patch actually refers to the Oil and Natural Gas Industries not just the oil patch. I never really thought about it, and quite frankly didn't give a shit either!
Now look at The Band! Complaining about environment issues, natural gas prices, royalties (even though I still don't know shit from shinola!), Driving semis up and down shitty lease roads, complaining about shit I didn't even care about two years ago. And don't even get me started on working in the mud!!! Pretty hilarious actually when you think about it. All in the name of the (now) all mighty dollar!
...and The Band played on!
