Maluku wants to revive Darwin-Ambon yacht race
Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Maluku tourism office has been trying to activate a
yacht race from Australian town of Darwin to Ambon, capital of Maluku province,
which was held annually until 1998, an official said.
The race would be conducted under a sister city cooperation Maluku and Darwin,
capital of the Northern Territory, signed some times ago, Maluku tourism office head
Ape Watratan said here Friday.
The program had no longer been conducted after Maluku was wrecked by sectarian
conflict in January 1999 which killed tens of people.
The Ambon city administration would thus invite yacht race event organizing
committee members from Darwin and Darwin mayor to visit Maluku to discuss the
plan, he said.
For years until 1998, the race which always started in Darwin and finished in
Amahasu village here, was usually participated in by tens of yachts and boats.(*)
