Situation in Maluku town of Namlea has returned to normal
Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Maluku district town of Namlea has returned to
normal following a clash between policemen and army personnel on Wednesday
evening, which caused a six-year-old boy and a cop to get wounded, a police
spokesman said Thursday.
The top brass of the local police and army units had even met for handling the conflict
to prevent it from spreading to other areas and disturbing the peaceful life of the local
residents, Chief of Buru police precinct, Ajunct Senior Commissioner Bambang
N.Widodo said.
"The situation has returned to normal. Our coordinative efforts with Buru military
commander have helped resolve the problem so that it does not spread to other areas,
and disturb the lives of locals who likely remain traumatized with the January 1999`s
sectarian conflict," he said.
The incident had caused Rusy Pataruba, 6, and Rido Tanasale (policeman) to sustain
injuries, he said.
But, what made the incident happen remained in question. Widodo did not elaborate
the causes of the incident, but just said he had reported it (to related institutions) and
it was being handled by the local military police.
Rido Tanasale who was admitted to Namlea general hospital soon after the incident
occurred, had returned home on Thursday morning, he said.(*)
