Police find TNT cache in Indonesian city of Ambon
JAKARTA : Police in the Indonesian province of Maluku said on Monday they have
discovered seven kilogrammes of TNT hidden in a house in the strife-torn city of
Ambon.
The explosives, plus five kilogrammes of sulphur - a typical ingredient used in making
bombs - and a small amount of detonator materials, were found in the ceiling of a
house belonging to the main suspect in last week's market blast in the city, Ambon
police chief Leonidas Braksan told AFP.
The interrogation of six men detained over the explosion, which injured eight people,
indicated that Arsyad, who is still on the loose, was the mastermind, leading to the
search of his home, he said.
Braksan said some of the arrested men were linked to a local hardline Muslim group
believed to be involved in previous attacks on police and civilians.
Ambon and other islands in the Maluku chain have been the scene of
Muslim-Christian violence that left more than 5,000 people dead between 1999 and
2002. - AFP/de
