Iraq living suites!!

Working in Iraq, hmm, when I first thought about it, I thought it would be cool to be out of the military and still be able to support my country by working there in support of the Marines. Well they don't tell you the whole story up front like you want it beleive me.
When I started with the company, I was living in a hotel which wasn't bad.It had a kichenette, a big bed and a desk and of course TV.

Please excuse the mess. But anyway, that was for a little over a month before I got the word, you are about to deploy. Kewl, im about to go over there and make some money but first I have to go to Camp Lejeune and go through a little training since I will be in a hostile environment and with the Marines. So now im in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Where am I living(?), Im in another hotel, which the company is paying for along with a rental car. This hotel was pretty plush also. It had everything you could possibly need.

So upon completion, Oh, did I tell you I received a present to travel with me. When you complete the course, you are given a duffle bag full of gear. This bag has to weigh about 75lbs on top of the bags im takeing with clothes and my laptop.
Ok, so now,off I fly to Charlotte, NC. then to Franfurt, Germany and in to Kuwait where I have to catch my next flight. Well if you know anything about mmilitary flights, you know that they are not there when you need them so for 2 days I slept in an open bay tent with about 12 other guys. Wow, fun fun......

2 days of this, and finally I found a place to use a computer since my laptop was useless in this area. Anywhere without wifi should be destroyed, but thats my own personal thought on that. After receiving an email to not go to Fallujah but stop in TQ, hmm, Ok, thanks for the heads up, what if I didn't get to my email???? So now I finally was able to get a flight to Balad. Sheesh, what a break, needless to say I have about a day left to get to my destination. So when I arrive in Balad, I am met by a guy from the company, boy was I glad to see him because I was lost in the wind and now I have to carry all these bags with me. So he drops me off at where I will be staying until I can get a flight out. Not bad, it's a tin can, all to myself.

Hmmm, ok, 2 days is long enough, im a day late now and it's not funny. So I got lucky once again and caught a flight out of there at 2:30am. When I arrived in TQ Iraq, I was met by another guy from the company who showed me to my can where I will be temporarily. Once again, all to myself, no carpeting this time, but nice and quiet.

Well, today I was told I will be moving to another place which once again is a temporary living space until they can find a perm one for us, but this one is closer to where I work. Sheesh, how many times do I have to carry these bags??? Well when I get to the 'Alamo', holy crap!!! EEEEEWWWW!!!! I feel like im living in a basement or something. It's a big empty room except for 3 bunk beds. There is a peice of carpeting in the middle and only the middle. The matress' don't fit the frames and it's dusty as all get out. After further asking people and readings, this base that we are at was bombed by us and taken over. The building we work in and sleep in use to be their buildings but were destroyed. That explains why the door is a peice of ply wood and the windows are boarded up and it looks the way it does.

When I finally get to my perm living space the story will continue.

Continueing on..
Well shortly after making this part of the page we received notice that we are moving to our new room. Now get this, this is from a unit that is about to leave and another unit takeing their place so hopefully the new unit leaves us where we are because we did quite a bit of work to get this new room livable.
Whoever was in the room before us, whew! I don't know how they lived in it, I mean there was dirt and sand in there an inch thick so we went on a cleaning spree.. Here is before.....

This is my little area, I chose the smallest because it is less to have to keep clean and not near any windows. Now mind you the pictures were there when I moved in, they are motivational pictures of runners, bikers and yoga people so get your minds out the gutter.. LOL The shaveing cream and stuff is now gone.. Who uses Old Spice anymore????

Now I am done with the living for the time being. Unless the new unit moves me or I get sent to Ramadi which has been talked about, this page will pretty much stay this way, but one never knows so keep checking. Holla!!!!
