106-47 National League Champions Managed by John McGraw Ballpark: Polo Grounds

They won a then-record 106 games while losing only 47 to capture the National League Pennant.

Manager John McGraw refused to meet Boston in the World Series, calling the AL a "minor league." After this incident, owners from both leagues drafted a set of rules that established a formal World Series. This guaranteed that an incident like McGraw's move would never occur again.

The Giants led the NL in average (.262), runs (744), homers (31), steals (283) and ERA (2.17). George Browne topped the league in runs scored (99) while Bill Dahlen ranked first in RBIs (80).

Joe McGinnity won 35 games and Christy Mathewson 33 to set a modern teammates tandem record. McGinnity also led the league with five saves. Mathewson topped the  NL in strikeouts (212) and was the only pitcher in the league to fan 200 hitters. Fellow hurler Hooks Wiltse won his first 12 games before dropping a decision.

At the age of 52, Jim O'Rourke caught a full game for the Giants.
