The White Sox defeated the New York Giants in six games to win the 1917 World Series. Won 100 games for the only time in franchise history. The White Sox have not won a title since, losing in the Fall Classic on two occasions (1919, 1959).
Chicago led the Majors in runs scored (656), stolen bases (219), OBP (.323) and ERA (2.16).
Outfielder Happy Felsch ranked second in the league in RBIs (102), fourth in homers (6), fifth in hits (177) and fifth in batting average (.308). Hall of Fame second baseman Eddie Collins finished second in the AL in stolen bases (53) and walks (89), and tied for fourth in runs scored (91).
Shoeless Joe Jackson batted .301 with 91 runs scored (tied for fourth in AL) and 75 RBIs (fifth). It was the seventh straight season he hit over .300.
Ed Cicotte topped the AL in ERA (1.53) and wins (28). He would win 20 games two more times in the next three years before being banned from baseball for his involvement in the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Other teammates accused of throwing the World Series included Jackson, Felsch, Lefty Williams, Buck Weaver, Chick Gandil, Fred McMullin and Swede Risberg
