'Big Poison' and 'Little Poison' - brothers Paul and Lloyd Waner - led a Pirates offense that topped the NL with 817 runs and a .305 batting average. |
Paul Waner led the Majors with 237 hits and topped the NL with a .380 batting average, 131 RBIs, 18 triples and 342 total bases, while Lloyd scored a league-high 133 runs. |
Paul topped the team with 42 doubles, a .423 on-base percentage and a .529 slugging percentage and scored 114 runs, while Lloyd hit .355 with and racked up 223 hits. |
Third baseman Pie Traynor hit .342 while driving in 106 runs, as the Pirates lineup featured three of the league's top five hitters. Shortstop Glenn Wright hit .281 with 105 RBIs, while four other players batted over .300, including second baseman George Grantham, who notched 33 doubles, 11 triples, 96 runs and a team-high 74 walks. |
Ray Kremer led the league with a 2.47 ER and won 19 games. Carmen Hill enjoyed a career season as the Pirates ace. Hill posted career-highs of 22 wins, 22 complete games and 277.2 innings, and even picked up three saves in 12 relief outings. |
Lee Meadows shared the league lead with 25 complete games in 38 starts, winning 19 games with a 3.40 ERA. Vic Aldridge added 15 wins and completed 17 of 34 starts. |
