The Tigers took the American League pennant with a 93-58 record, then topped the Chicago Cubs in six games to win the first World Series title in franchise history.
Hank Greenberg was the centerpiece of baseball's most feared offense, leading the league with a franchise-record 170 RBIs and sharing the lead with 36 homers. He also paced the team with 203 hits, 46 doubles, 16 triples, 389 total bases and a .628 slugging percentage.
