1940 Cincinnati Reds
The Reds won the NL pennant with an even 100 wins before winning the World Series in a seven-game squeaker over the Detroit Tigers.
First baseman Frank McCormick was named NL MVP after leading the league with 44 doubles, sharing the league lead with 191 hits and finishing second with 127 RBIs. He also led the team in batting and slugging percentage.
Second baseman Lonny Frey led the league with 22 steals, led the team with 80 walks and was one of two Reds, along with third baseman Billy Werber, to score 100 or more runs.
Bucky Walters led the league with 22 wins, a 2.48 ERA, 29 complete games and 305 innings pitched.
Paul Derringer finished second in the league with 20 victories, 26 complete games and 296.2 innings pitched.
Walters and Derringer each won two games in the World Series, while outfielder Jimmy Ripple - a backup during the regular season -- drove in six of the Reds' 22 runs in the seven games.
Junior Thompson, Jim Turner and reliever Joe Beggs each won 12 or more games, as Beggs shared the league lead with seven saves.
