I know that this breed has had a lot of temperament problems and the breeders have not given temperament enough consideration. They use the excuse that the hair blocks the dogs eyes and this makes them nervous and insecure. I say this is a lame excuse for poor breeding. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I have a 2 1/2 year old female (spayed) golden retriever that my family got as a puppy after our 9 year old Sharpei died (the Sharpei was a perfect dog in many respects). The golden has always been fearful of anyone entering the home or the yard.
