How to RPG!

If you don't know what an RPG is, you've come to the right place!

First of all, RPG stands for 'Role-Playing Game'. This simply means that you're pretending to be someone else, like a famous actor/actress, and pretending to do the things that they do.
Most of the time you use message boards and chat rooms to RPG.
As this is a Harry Potter RPG, you will be roleplaying as either as one of the characters in the Harry Potter books, or as a Hogwarts student. For the purpose of demontrating how to RPG, we're going to use a Hogwarts student named Sarah. To show an action that Sarah does, you either do this:

*Sarah leaned over and picked up her books*
(usually the standard way)or this:
::Sarah leaned over and picked up her books::

If you want your character to speak, you do either this:

"Tammy, do you know what the charms homework is?"
(usually the standard way)or this:
Tammy, do you know what the charms homework is?

There are also times when you want to say things that your character isn't saying or doing. We call this Out-Of-Character, or OOC. Usually OOC messages come at the beginning or end of a post, but they can also occur in the middle. An example of this would be:

*Sarah leaned over and picked up her books* "Tammy, do you know what the charms homework is?"*she asked* OOC:I was on vacation all last week. It was great!
You could also do it like this: ((OOC:I was on vacation all last week. It was great!))

After you're OOC, you might want your character to say something else. Then you would type BIC, which means Back-In-Character.

OOC:I was on vacation all last week. It was great! BIC:*looks at her watch* "Yikes! I have to go; I'm going to be late for Transfiguration!"

So this is what you would post:
*Sarah leaned over and picked up her books* "Tammy, do you know what the charms homework is?" OOC:I was on vacation all last week. It was great! BIC:*looks at her watch* "Yikes! I have to go; I'm going to be late for Transfiguration!"

Those are the basics of RPGing, and that is pretty much all that you'll use. Now you can start RPGing! Have fun!
