Before I was transfered out to Hohenfels Training Area I was like most of you and did some time at 130th General Hospital. We all have memories of the place. Mine is of  a room mate that slid down the bannister of the NCO Club fell and hit his head killing him. Mike Robb told me many a story of his drinking escapades with his friends there. Well as of April 2001 the Hospital is no more. they sold the land and tore it down. In the early 90's the Army sunk 38 million dollars into renovations and then ripped it down 6 years or so later. Now the area is an apartment complex and there is barely a trace that the hospital was there. But then again there is a huge list of Army Barracks etc. that that have been ripped down the land given or sold back to Germany.

Hohenfels training Area is still opened, but is now known as Hohenfels Combat Manuevering Area.

List of other area's closed since we left in the 70's:

As you can see quite a few are gone. The Army's rationale is that since the "Cold War" is over their mission has changed and the size of the force their is no longer needed.
