Citizens Of the World
In the future people will have to become world citizens.Form the beginning it has been a mistake to make distinctions between people by calling them "Japanese" or "Chinese" or whatever. If the peoples of the world could widen their consciousness to accept that all countries are members of one family, then it would be completely impossible for war to break out. In the same way, for people to embrace an idea or a principle only to form a group and treat other people as enemies, to declare that they alone know what policy the country should follow, that they alone represent the spirit of the country or to advance ideas of nationalism ... and to blind the country with one man's individal thoughts is destructive to world peace. This being so [calls for] abandoning narrow-minded attitudes and adopting a tolerant and broad-minded view of the world. This is the way of thinking essential for the future progress of the world, and the world has a great need for this kind of person.
Religion is no different in this respect. Different religions, different schools, different sects, sectarian struggle-these are leftovers from a by-gone age. We wish to bring harmony to all mankind and to make the whole world into one family. Because we believe in this kind of pacifism, we recognize all religions as our colleagues and will link hands with them in mutual amity as we go onward.
