Levy Cats
Naturally
(note: currently out of print)
This is a truly quirky book, and a great deal of caution and research
is advisable when using any information from it. Some of the suggestions,
while interesting, are neither easy to implement, nor safe. Her use
of essential oils, and certain herbs such as rue and wormwood, are questionable
at best. Despite these caveats, it is an interesting book, and gives
a totally different perspective to holistic cat care. It certainly
is a compelling book, and makes for interesting reading

Levy The
Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat
This book may be considered among the classics for herbal use in cats
and dogs. There's an extensive section in the book on specific diseases/conditions
and their treatment using herbs. General recipes are given for starting
cats on a natural diet and much of the information that she may include
that is directed to canines can be adapted for felines.

Cat is Driving Me Crazy
(note: out of print, but Amazon will search for it)
An excellent book written by two people who really understand what
makes cats tick. While this is just a 132 page paperback, it is chock
full of great information. It covers mostly mental and behavioral
issues, such as - spraying, aggression, fears, phobias, and depression,
to name just a few. In each section, the authors recommend herbs,
Bach Flower essences, and homeopathic remedies (with wonderful profiles
of each, such that the reader gets a really good picture of the type of
cat that would need said remedy)

Christopher Day The
Homeopathic Treatment of Small Animals
While this book is not just cat-oriented, it does discuss cat-specific
diseases, such as FeLV. It has a good history of homeopathy, as well
as a discussion of how to use homeopathic remedies, and when to not treat
one's cat at home. Possible remedies for each condition are listed,
as well as thumbnail sketches of frequently used remedies

Anitra Frazier The
New Natural Cat
If I could afford only one book on cat care, this would be the one
I would buy. Anitra Frazier's obvious love for cats is
evident in this book. The first half of this book deals with
basic cat care topics such as trimming claws, grooming and getting a kitty
to use her scratching post, etc. The second half of the book is an
invaluable guide to holistic cat care. It is in alphabetical order
and gives detailed symptoms for each disease followed by diet, herb, and
supplement suggestions for each disease problem

Dr.
Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats
This book is written by a vet who also holds a doctorate in Immunology.
I like the fact that he is able to provide a convincing argument for feeding
raw food to our kitty companions. He also has detailed recipes with
a breakdown of nutritional values. A lot of Holisticat members have
over the years, tweaked his recipes to the point where we have cut way
back on his grain %, or eliminated grains altogether. Dr. Pitcairn
also devotes a large part of the book to treating various diseases, such
as heart disease, gingivitis, etc. The herb and supplement suggestions
are good, but needless to say, the homeopathic ones are just guidelines
to be used as a starting point. To learn more about homeopathy, read the

This book is a good one to look at for acute problems. It is also helpful
if used as a starting point when one doesn't have time to repertorize.
Dr. Wolff lists many possible remedies for various diseases including
eye, nose, cardiac, liver, and kidney problems. These are useful to then
look up in a Materia Medica for more detailed symptom information
