Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. ~ then

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. ~ today

Sadly, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. passed away at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City on May 7, 2000. He is to be buried alongside his father at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. was born December 9,1909 in Manhattan, where he still makes his home. Douglas is the son of famous swashbuckling actor and United Artists co-founder, Douglas Fairbanks Sr., and is by all measures, Hollywood royalty. An accomplished actor, writer, producer and successful businessman, he co-starred in only one movie with Nancy Carroll, " Scarlet Dawn ", at the age of 22.

A marriage in the early '30s to actress Joan Crawford ended in divorce. In 1939 Douglas married Mary Lee, a union lasting nearly 50 years, ending with her death in 1988. He married his widow Vera, in 1991.

In the early 1980s I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Fairbanks -- a moment in my life I will never forget. He is an extremely handsome, cultured and gracious gentleman. It is my understanding Douglas has ventured into cyberspace and has visited some of the websites dedicated to the preservation of silent movies. He recently sent me the above autographed photo. I was compelled to post it directly below a photo taken nearly 70 years earlier. It is amazing ! He has hardly changed a bit!

Rather than my continuing to write more about Mr. Faribanks' accomplishments and talent here, may I suggest you visit the following websites to see fabulous photographs and to learn more about this talented man.
