ARMAGEDDON
Starring: Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Steve Buscemi and a huge rock

Pop Quiz hotshot, there's a asteriod the size of Texas heading towards Earth, what do you do?...
Answer: You send a few good men into space, drill holes into the asteriod and plant a nuke warhead inside. click for full sizeHey...wait just a minute...didn't we already seen this in "Deep impact"?

My 2 cents worth:
You all should know by now there are two "asteriod collision with earth" flicks out this summer alone, but what is the diff? Well, I've seen both and though Deep Impact has offered some kick ass computer effects combining with a "have hope, will survive" attitude, what Armageddon is offering here is simply bigger louder and better special effects than whatever Deep impact has offered.

Also the fact that this is a Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, Bad Boys) flick goes to prove that it has loads of box office potential. Oh did I mention that Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler are in this flick as well? All the reasons you need man...

Unlike Deep Impact, all of Armageddon's "heroes" here are a bunch of weirdos and rednecks, fortunately the movie uses more one liners and action (ok..there's this romance subplot too between Liv and Ben) which is delivered to you early in the movie and is  packed in almost every frame and delivered so fast and furious into your face that you couldn't even keep up! Whoa!

I must say this is definitely one of Bruce Willis' better movies in a while, and with a killer soundtrack featuring Aerosmith blasting in the background, I thought I must have died and went to heaven!

The Storm Riders (aka Feng Yun) Revised
Starring: Aaron Kwok, Cheng E-Kin, Shu Qi and a japanese guy click for full size

Movie info:
Long awaited movie adaptaion (almost 2 years.. unheard of in HongKong) of one of Hong Kong's hottest selling comic/graphic novel.  The story is about a power hungry pugilist whom as usual wants to conquer the world, adopting 2 boys Bu Jing Yun and Nie Feng for good luck but may also turn out to be his downfall, provided IF they can settle their differences and work together.  Will they?? Of course lah!!! DUH !

My 2 cents worth:
Now first of all, I didn't read the comics, so I know nothing about the characters except from what i saw in the movie. Secondly, I seldom watch Hong Kong flicks, but this is truly an exception! Aaron did a fine job putting up his Bu Jing Yun face (but the blue colour hair?? oh please!), however I don't really liked E-kin's acting and his Nie Feng's character... he's a wimp if you ask me! But of couse, the main attraction is probably the special effects in the movie itself, and I strongly believe this movie is gonna do what Terminator 2 did to Hollywood! Hooray!

However, the movie is not without its cons, for starters this movie stars so much cast members of the "Young and Dangerous" series that you probably thought you are watching yet another Y&D sequel! And for the die-hard fans of the comics, they would probably be disgusted that so much of the story is cut off (eg. Wu Ming's absence) and finally, all the cool names turn out to be really lame when translated, it sound as if they are red indians!

The WORST thing about the show I could think of is actually E-kin 's horrible singing!!!!!!! *bleah*  Wondering how on earth he get to sing the title song in the first place!

Well worth the long wait.If you are planning to watch only one Hong Kong flick this year...look no further! Expect a sequel by the year 2000.

Lethal Weapon 4
Starring: Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Jet Li, Chris Rock, Renee Russo and Joe Pesci

Info:
The Duo are back in yet another sequel, this time aganist the chinese crimelords whom are smuggling illegal click for full sizeimmigrants to America for slavery or something.

My 2 cents worth:
Jet Li really kicked ass ! (literally) Though I feel that the LW series has gotten soft and more comedy oriented over the years, I'm sure glad this ep has got Mr Wong Fei Hong himself to spice up some action as the baddie.

The scene to watch is the one featuring Jet taking orders from his Chinese boss, one speaks perfect mandrian while the other...uh god knows what dialect he's talking... half cantonese half ang mor? geez...Who are these ang mors kidding here????

Chris Rock has also provided some fantastic lines for the show... and he really overshadows Joe Pesci throughout the entire movie.

Overall, the movie is really action packed from the first minute, but I personally feel the ending is too corny!
This is probably a hint to show that there ain't gonna be a LW5.

Picking up where season 5 left off, TV's favourite FBI agents leaps to the big screen to reveal the truth to a global conspiracy.  Does aliens exist or is it all just a damn hoax? And most importanly, will they finally smooch?  The TRUTH IS REVEALED!TM

My 2 cents worth:
I was really eagerly anticipating for this movie release more than any other summer movies (well maybe except for The Storm Riders).  The end result? Well..mixed.  While I'm glad to see the movie kept the spirit of the tv series, the explanation for the conspiracy is slightly disappointing.  I'm just glad that the tv series is not over !

There's also too little scenes regarding Skinner and the Lone Gunmen, I thought the movie would further explain what did happen to Mimi Rogers and the abduction of the mind reading kid from the last episode of Season 5, however these never happened.

Personally, I always preferred X-files stand  alone episodes which are always more fun to watch.  I'm wondering how the sequels would turn out when the tv series ends....

One last thing, I wonder how much of the movie did the non-fans of the series understood...(Well, at least we get to hear "Scully, it's me" in THX!)

Mulan
Featuring the voices of: Ming Na-Wen and Eddy Murphy

Movie info:
Chinese legend of a girl cross dressing as a guy in order take the place of her aging father in the war against the Huns and also to restore honour to the family name. click for full size

My 2 cents worth:
This has gotta be the funniest Disney animation since Aladdin!  Eddie Murphy has tonnes of one-liners and the animation is truly excellent! The scene of the Hun soldiers galloping down the snow slopes is simply breathtaking.

BUT... these ang mors, despite doing research for the movie, still doesn't know that Mulan's name is pronounced as HUA MULAN and not FA MULAN ...Sigh.. Also, the story is cut short to squeeze in the 90min time frame.  Nonetheless, this is a very interesting animation and you should not miss it.
