The Floating Men

This Nashville based band has a small-time, coffee shop/bar type atmosphere to its style. Not exactly rock and far from being country, this group tells the bleak tales of the underworld and the dark side of the street. Jeff Holmes, Scot Evans, and Jeff Bishop are the Floating Men, playing acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, and drums, respectively. Accenting Holmes' Dylanesque lead vocals is Evans' with harmony vocals, which are much more prevalent on "Invoking Michaelangelo," yet equally as powerful as on "Tall Shadows." The venue where I catch this band is a "very" coffee shop in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. There is a great intensity to there live performance that, although it is well represented on their albums, they are worth the in-person listen. Their lyrics are the most original and meaningful poetry I have ever come across, and an ex- once agreed with me that they are the male Indigo Girls.
