Do You Want to Get Paid to Surf?
Nigel Olsson was Elton's drummer in the 1970's. From the very beginning (he played drums on the song Lady What's Tomorrow on Elton John's very first album, Empty Sky), he timed and rythmed Elton's music in a very original and perfect way. He remained in Elton's band up to and including the Captain Fantastic album, then came back for the 21 at 33 album, along with Dee Murray, who had also been put aside for a couple of Elton albums. He played on a couple other albums from the early 80's, and also on Reg Strikes Back (1988) and The One (1992).
Nigel also worked on his own projects along the years and appeared on other artists' albums. But for many Elton fans, he will remain in our hearts for his part in the early 70's Elton trio (bass, drums and piano). Just listen to 11-17-70 to hear the raw power and energy emanating from these three instruments, played by the three best musicians ever (IMHO :-).
