You only live twice;
Once when you're born,
And once when you look death in the face.

While Bond "dies" in the film's opening, in the novel version of You Only Live Twice, Bond's "death" occurs at the end of the book. The effect the novel's ending has on the reader is even more powerful than Tracy Bond's murder in the epilogue of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. As with the film version, Bond does not really die, and has his death faked to allow him more flexibility in his pursuit of SPECTRE and Blofeld.

Bond love interest, Kissy Suzuki, is never mentioned by name in the film. She is also 007's first "wife", although as Kissy points out in the film, Bond "gave the priest a false name."

The set used for Blofeld's volcano lair was so large that it had to be build in the parking lot of Pinewood Studios. Dubbed as "worthy of exhibit at a World's Fair", the set had a working monorail line, a moveable helicopter landing pad, and a full-scale space rocket model which could be raised fifty feet in the air. The volcano lair set was the most advanced set of it's time.
