This movie is sick, sick, sick. That's not a condemnation mind you, just a statement of fact. BLOODSUCKING FREAKS (originally entitled THE INCREDIBLE TORTURE SHOW) is one sick puppy of a movie, and I for one admire its courage to be so out and out offensive.
The story revolves around Sardu, master of The Theater of the Macabre. Along with his dwarf assistant Ralphus, Sardu seeks critical acclaim for his off off Broadway torture show produced in the style of the Grand Guignol. What the general public doesn't realize, though, is that the tortures and murders happening on stage are real. Sardu kidnaps a famous ballerina and a critic who refuses to acknowledge The Theater of the Macabre's artistry. Both are to be featured performers in Sardu's newest masterpiece.
The story line exists merely to string together numerous scenes of torture and sadism. In a mere 88 minutes the viewer is subjected to naked women being tortured with thumbscrews, having their limbs sawed off, and having their teeth removed with pliers. One hapless victim is the recipient of neurosurgery performed with a power drill. A woman's bare buttocks are used as a dart board, and Sardu and Ralphus play backgammon using severed fingers instead of chips.
Ralphus, disgusting little retch that he is, does a fair amount of scene stealing. His more memorable moments include plucking out and eating a woman's eyeball, as well as receiving oral sex from a severed head (thus preceding THE RE-ANIMATOR's "giving head" joke by a decade).
For those looking for a break from all things politically correct, I can wholeheartedly recommend this one. BLOODSUCKING FREAKSdelivers exactly what you would expect from a film with such a title. It sets out to shock and offend, and succeeds admirably. This movie is refreshingly unpretentious, while still being thoroughly disgusting.
